Android 4.3 next for Galaxy S III, Samsung tipped to skip latest update

The latest version of Android rolling around right this moment is Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Unless of course you’re lucky enough to have the Google Play edition Galaxy S4 that is reportedly running an early version of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for some. We know the new OS is coming, possibly July 24th, and now we’re hearing Samsung will be skipping Android 4.2.2 altogether.

Rumor has it (take with salt) that the Samsung Galaxy S III and the popular Note II, both which are on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the US, won’t be getting bumped to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Which is the latest version right from Google with all those new features and lockscreen widgets, not to mention a few new features from the Galaxy S4 like smart pause and scroll.

Android 4.2 recently leaked for the international Galaxy S III, and we still might see a 4.2.1 update for some GSIII and Note II users, but the latest update is reportedly being skipped, which is fine by us. Why is that ok? Because reports are suggesting the Galaxy S III and Note II are going to quickly be upgraded to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean right out of the gate.

This report makes sense given we’ve been hearing 4.2 was delayed for both handsets, as they might be focusing all their effort on 4.3 Jelly Bean instead. Especially since Samsung has early access to the latest OS and has been working with Google for their GPe smartphone.

As long as this doesn’t further delay the update, I’m sure most won’t mind getting the absolute latest version of Android with Samsung’s tweaks. Hopefully the Galaxy S4 gets the same treatment, and most likely it will.
