Android Device Manager Now Allows You To Reset And Change Your Password

Android Device Manager

A little while back Google finally launched a long awaited service to help you track down your lost phone.  At launch the service, which is called Android Device Manager, was able to target your phone’s location, ring your phone for you (even if it is on silent) and wipe your phone.  But what if you didn’t want to wipe it but just needed to lock it (or change your password) so that no one got into your personal data?  Well now you can do that too!

The Android Device Manager was just updated to include this new functionality.  In order to enable the Lock functionality you do need to go into the “Google Settings” app on your phone and enable “Allow remote lock and factory reset” under “Android Device Manager.”  If you don’t do this, you won’t be able to remote lock or remote erase the device.

I gave it a try on my phone and it definitely works as advertised.  It’s nice to see Google stepping up their game when it comes to security.
