Chromoting app incoming as remote desktop solution for Android

It looks like the Chromium team has begun work on a remote desktop app. The app is called Chromoting and early details have recently been discovered by François Beaufort with more available on the Chromium code review site. While the details are still on the light side, it is looking like the Chromoting app will bring a remote desktop control solution to Android.

Granted, this is something that is already available by way of third party solutions, however this one would presumably be available for free. Google already offers an app called Chrome Remote Desktop which allows the user to remotely access another computer through the Chrome browser or using a Chromebook.

The code reviews page for the Chromoting app mentioned how this is the beginnings of the app and goes on to list what the app can and cannot do at the moment. And before anyone thinks of giving this a try — the missing features include being able to “display the host’s desktop” and “handle any kind of input.” Pretty much everything you would want to do with a remote desktop app.

Basically, it seems this is still so early that it could not even truly be considered an alpha just yet. Needless to say, it would be nice to see a mobile version of the Chrome Remote Desktop app eventually makes entry into the Play Store. And as one would expect given this early stage — we have yet to see any sort of timeline for a release.
