Fitbit Force official with step counting, sleep tracking and more

The Fitbit Force activity tracker has been officially unveiled this morning. The Force joins the growing Fitbit lineup alongside the Zip and One, however this is a bracelet style tracker similar to the Flex. The Force tracks your steps, sleep and more. There is also an LED display which shows the time, and promised as a coming soon item; call notifications.

The full range of items that will be tracked include the following; steps taken, distance traveled, active minutes, stairs climbed and calories burned as well as the hours you slept and quality of your sleep. There is also a silent wake alarm included. The Flex does have an available Android companion app, though, the device support is a bit limited at this time.

The Fitbit Android app can be found in the Play Store and a quick check of the supported devices points towards the Galaxy S 4, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Note 10.1. More are promised as coming “soon.” That is not to say the Android app is useless to other Android users though. Those are the devices that support wireless sync.

The Fitbit Force can also sync with Mac and Windows using a small USB dongle. Said dongle will sync the data from your device to your Fitbit account, which can then be seen on the Android app. Sort of an un-perfect workaround, but the app will also allow you to add other trackable items such as weight, water consumption, food and more.

The Force will also be NFC-equipped which will allow you to tap the two devices to launch the app. That all having been said, the Fitbit Force is available in black or slate, priced at $129.95 and currently listed as shipping in 3-4 weeks.
