Good news for those of you running out of internal space on your shiny new S4.  The software update that enables apps-to-sd on the S4 is beginning to roll out for some users.  However, it’s not the more common version of the S4, the SGH-I337 (Rogers, Bell, Telus, etc.), getting it first but rather the SGH-M919 (WIND, Mobilicity, Videotron, Eastlink) variant getting treated to things first.

In addition to the apps-to-sd support, there are a few other changes and fixes in this particular build:

This is the update that finally brings the much awaited Apps2SD feature to our phones. It also includes the following enhancements:
– Some new icons in the settings
– Additional ‘Smart Pause’ button in quick settings
– Stability improvements
– Upgrades the camera firmware.
– Storage shown as 16GB now, but 6.38 GB is occupied by System memory under ‘Misc’.

Again, this isn’t the greatest solution to the storage problem (sticking 32GB in there from the start would have probably made everyone happy) but it’s solution nonetheless.  We’re still waiting for the Big 3 and their child companies to get the update but we’ll be sure to let you know when it does roll out.

I do find it strange that the “small” guys got this out first as they’re usually late to the party when it comes to updates.  It’s also strange that users on T-Mobile in the states seem to be waiting for the update still as this version, the SGH-M919, is identical to the version on T-Mobile.  I guess good on WIND, Mobilicity, Videotron, and Eastlink for getting this out in a timely manner!
