Google Starts Rolling Out New Gmail For Android, Get It Here

Posted In News - By AndroidPress on Monday, June 3rd, 2013 With No Comments »

We’ve been expecting the new Gmail app for a while now. We knew it was coming from a few leaks, and eventually Google announced it themselves. The web experience has been available to us for a while, but the Android app hadn’t rolled out. And though we consider the Gmail app very nice, it could definitely be improved. Today, Google started the slow rollout of Gmail for Android to some people, meaning you may not get it for quite a while. However, we have a download for you!

This new Gmail app completely gets rid of the bottom bar we’ve grown used to, moving a few buttons to the top. Now you have compose, search and an action overflow button (on non-Galaxy devices). The two missing buttons are labels and refresh, neither of which are now needed. To refresh, you pull down. But there is no overscroll animation; it’s far smoother and nicer than that. You’ll have to check it out. Labels is not a problem, because a swipe from the left reveals all your categories, labels, and accounts, all in an easy to access place.

The new app is smooth, pretty, and damn functional. While I’m not impressed with the new category system in general, the app is a nice improvement over old versions. And instead of showing nothing for those who don’t have contact images, it’ll show a nice colored letter. It’s a nice touch.

If you want to try this app out for yourself, you could wait for the rollout to come to you. Or, if you’re not willing to wait what might be weeks, you can download it and install it here! Hit the source link to download the file onto your Android device, and install away! Tell us what you think in the comments section.
