HTC Desire 709d smartphone appears in China

Just days after HTC finally unveiled its One Max, the company is now making available another large Android smartphone. This time, however, the HTC Desire 709d is a giant only in size, but quite small in other aspects.

The HTC Desire 709d is indeed large. Not as big as the HTC One Max’s 5.9-inch screen or even the Samsung Galaxy Note 3‘s 5.7 inches. It does, however, stand at 5.0 inches, larger than the 4.7-inch HTC One. But that’s probably the only thing it has over the HTC One. Despite the size, the resolution is a measly 960×540. The Desire 709d sports a much slower quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200 CPU with 1 GB of RAM. Internal storage is set at 8 GB, expandable with a microSD card.

This HTC smartphone is not a total pushover, though. It still runs Android 4.1 and comes with HTC staples such the BlinkFeed news app, Zoe camera and photo app, and HTC BoomSound. The 8 megapixel rear camera does have an LED flash and it also has a 2 megapixel camera on the front, so at least it is decent in that department. The battery, however, is quite low at 2100 mAh.

For now, the HTC Desire 709d seems to be available only in China, with no indication of future global availability. No pricing details are available either, although, judging from the specs, it would probably fall within a budget smartphone range.
