Jelly Bean Continues to Climb In This Months Numbers

Feb 13 - Android Chart

Another month has gone and we are again graced with some numbers to show us how the Android ecosystem is doing in terms of the firmware.  Jelly Bean has grown yet again, jumping to 13.6% from 10.2% last month.  Gingerbread, Froyo and Eclair all took some losses which is always a nice thing to see.

Feb 13 - Android Pie

And just in case you’re not a numbers person, the pie chart really helps to illustrate what thing are like currently in the Android world.  As you can see, Gingerbread still dominates, which for me, I’m okay with as it was by far the best version of the “old” Android system.  However, another positive is that close to half of the devices out there are now running the re-designed Android system that made its debut with HoneyComb.

I saw that within a couple years the “old” Android system will barely be in existence anymore.  However, there’s a good chance that we could see another large change with upcoming, but still unannounced, Key Lime Pie.  Personally, I’m torn between seeing an overhaul and keeping things kind of as they are.  Change is always fun to see and to play with, however, the more Google keeps the core the same the easier it seems to make the update process for manufacturers.

What do you guys think?  Will we see another overhaul with Key Lime Pie?  And if so, is that a good strategy?
