Mad Catz MOJO console pricing and availability details revealed

Posted In News - By AndroidPress on Tuesday, October 8th, 2013 With No Comments »

Mad Catz began showing off the MOJO game console back in June, during E3. The system appears to be arriving as a competitor to the OUYA, however given the processor we cannot help but make the comparison to the NVIDIA SHIELD. While not a portable device like the SHIELD, the MOJO console will be arriving with an NVIDIA Tegra 4 T40S 1.8GHz processor. And in a bit of good news for those who may have been waiting — the price has been revealed and pre-orders are now available.

Mad Catz has the MOJO “Micro-Console for Android” listed at $249.99. Aside from the pre-orders being available from the Mad Catz website beginning today, the console will begin shipping on December 10, 2013. The catch here, Mad Catz has said that December launch date will bring “limited quantities.”

Otherwise, in addition to the Tegra 4 processor, the MOJO console will also have 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot (supporting cards up to 128GB in size), Ethernet, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. Display connectivity will be HDMI out and 1080p and the console will arrive running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

One perk the MOJO will have over the much less expensive OUYA is with the games. The MOJO will ship with access to the Google Play Store, which means that if you are a current Android user with previously purchased games — you will have things to play right from the first boot. In addition to the Play Store, the MOJO will ship with access to the NVIDIA Tegra Zone Apps setup.

Along with this announcement, we are also getting a slightly better look at both the console and controller. You can see these both in the image sitting above and as you will likely see, the controller has quite a few buttons. Along with what you would expect in terms of gaming, there are media buttons to control volume and the playback of music and video.
