New Exynos 5 Octa (5420) Blows The Nexus 10 (5250) Out Of The Water

Samsung announced yesterday its new enhanced Exynos 5 Octa (Exynos 5420) chip based on ARM Mali-T628 silicon. The new CPU is 20 percent faster than its predecessor 5 Octa, the Exynos 5410. However, the most improved area is the GPU, which is the industry’s first SoC to feature a six-core GPU.

Samsung cooked up a prototype device with the Exynos 5420 to show over at SIGGRAPH 2013. To test out the new processor, Samsung pitted it against the Nexus 10 in a benchmark fight, and the prototype blew it away. Currently, while the Nexus 10 doesn’t feature the top-of-the-line SoC it features the most powerful GPU out there, so comparing it with the new CPU makes a lot of sense and helps get a clear idea of the processing power on the new chip.

The video shows the prototype device scored almost double the points as of the Nexus 10. Don’t forget the prototype device isn’t a final product like the Nexus 10, so it isn’t fine-tuned. We’re still waiting to see how this processor holds up against the beast Snapdragon 800, but looking at video it seems we’ve got a great contender on the works.
