Ramos unveils four Android tablets, powered by Intel

Chinese manufacturers don’t exactly have a stunning reputation when it comes to consumer electronics, but that hasn’t stopped them from trying to fill the market with sometimes redundant and sometimes unique devices. One such manufacturer is Ramos who is announcing four new tablets which, unlike majority of Android tablets, are running on an Intel platform.

Of course, Intel-based Android tablets are nothing new, but they’re still so uncommon that the rare ones sometimes deserve a special mention. These four Ramos tablets are all running on the same Clover Trail+ processor that was just made available early this year. While definitely no Bay Trail, the dual-core Intel Atom Z2580 runs at clock speeds of 2 GHz, which might be good enough for the low price that it comes with.

Among the pack. the Ramos i8 offers the lowest price and lowest specs, with an 8-inch 1280×800 display and 1 GB of RAM. The i9 and i10 both have 1920×1200 displays with 9-inch and 10-inch screens, respectively. The i12 is the largest, sporting an 11.6-inch screen, but curiously comes at a lower resolution of 1920×1080. The i9, i10, and i12 all come with 2 GB of RAM.

The i9 is expected to be available starting September 15 for 1,199 yuan or around $196, while the other models still have no price tags and are scheduled to launch next month. No word on whether the tablets will be available worldwide, though if they will, they might be facing some stiff competition from companies like ASUS who are also producing affordable Intel-based Android tablets.
