Samsung Galaxy Note III design possibly hinted in new patent

The IFA trade show is fast approaching and with it comes a list of the who’s who of the Android smartphone world making announcements and unveiling their latest masterpieces. Among these is Samsung‘s next S Pen-enabled phablet, the Galaxy Note III. But before the device makes its expected debut on September 4, we may have gotten a glimpse of what could possibly be a different body design.

The Galaxy Note III’s specs sounds like a litany of top of the line hardware and software of this smartphone generation: an Exynos 5 Octa-core or a Snapdragon 800 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display, 13 megapixel camera with Xenon flash, 3450 mAh battery, and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. But so far, we’ve only had leaked photos of prototypes that doesn’t give any hint as to the finished look of the device. Until now.

We couldn’t be blamed if we presumed that the Galaxy Note III will look just like it’s predecessors. After all, why change a tried and tested design? But if this new patent, which was just awarded to Samsung today, is any indication, the company might have tweaked the style just a bit. The tapered ends seen in profile and the rounded top and bottom plates make a subtle deviation from the standard Note phablet design.

We’re not sure if it’s really for the Galaxy Note III, but the images do indicate a slot presumably for an S Pen, so the patent is definitely for a Note device. We’ll have to wait to find out when all rumors are put to rest in three weeks.
