Samsung Galaxy Star Pro released in India

In the Indian market, Microtel is the incumbent leader. With nearly a quarter of the market share, they easily rival all other OEMs for supremacy in the emerging Indian market. Samsung is distance themselves from their competition further, and has released the Galaxy Star Pro as a competitively priced offering.

In India, specs aren’t the main concern; pricing is, though. As such, Samsung’s latest is mediocre by comparison to new devices we see stateside, but very average for a cost conscious market like India. The 4-inch screen has a 480 x 800 resolution, and it’s backed by an A5 processor, single core and clocked at 1GHz. A lonely 512MB RAM and 4GB of internal storage round out the major specs, and it’s all powered by a 1,500 mAH battery.

Samsung claims the Galaxy Star Pro can get 15 hours of talk time, and 370 hours on standby. The device doesn’t support 3G connections, but has WiFi and Bluetooth. A 2MP camera is on the back, with no front facing shooter available. Running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, it’s covered with Samsung’s ubiquitous TouchWiz skin and has their wildly popular (in India) ChatOn service.

The device will cost Rs 6,989, or about $111. For what it is, and the market it’s sold in, it could be a wildly popular device. Though Samsung is the market leader in India, they’re looking to further distance themselves from the competition as they always do: by saturating the market with competitively priced devices.
