Sony has just announced the availability of updated versions of their Android media apps. These updates cover their WALKMAN, Album, and Movies apps and are aimed to converge on Sony’s cloud services to provide a more integrated entertainment experience.

Aside from the usual fixes and performance tweaks, this update focuses on adding support for Sony’s cloud services into the Album, Movies, and WALKMAN apps. Users will now have access to more content and more choices for better entertainment. Apps also gain an intelligent recommendation system to help users pick content based on theme, mood, or friends’ selections.

The WALKMAN app is updated to add support for Sony’s Music Unlimited, enabling it to search and access content both locally and on the cloud. The Albums app gets integration with Sony PlayMemories Online which lets users upload, store, and access photos and videos on the cloud. It also gets a Recall Playback feature that displays content stored in PlayMemories. The Movies app likewise also get support for Sony’s Video Unlimited as well as a new user interface. Sony has also released a video showcasing the new features.

The updates have started to roll out already, but availability and arrival might vary depending on the market or carrier. The updates will be delivered over the air via Sony’s Update Center app for the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, and Xperia Z Ultra, but only for those devices that are already running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
