Sony Releases 4.1 Alpha ROM For The Xperia T With Everything Not Working

Posted In News - By AndroidPress on Friday, January 25th, 2013 With No Comments »

Sony has been extremely dev friendly recently, helping people developer AOSP for their devices and even releasing alpha ROMs. The next phone to get an alpha ROM is the Sony Xperia T. The ROM is based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and has everything ripped out of it. Here are some of the things that are not included or turned off:

  • Google Mobile Services (GMS) apps are not included (for example, Gmail and Google Maps).
  • Modem is turned off and therefore the SIM card will not be recognised (this also means you can’t make any phone calls).
  • Bluetooth™ is turned off.
  • Wi-Fi® is turned off.
  • FM-radio is turned off.
  • NFC is turned off.
  • UI look and feel is not updated to final Sony Jelly Bean software.

Yeah, even power users won’t be able to use this ROM. It’s purely for developers. And while we would have preferred a working ROM (like Samsung often leaks), we still appreciate the effort Sony is putting into the modding community. Plus, someone just might get everything working before the official update. If you want to toy around with this ROM, you’ll have to have an Xperia T with an unlocked bootloader (which voids warranty). This is an alpha ROM, so anything can go wrong. Take caution!
