TCL N3 smartphone outed in promo photo ahead of release

TCL has been rather quiet of late in Android circles, unless, of course, you include the line of Android smartphones from Alcatel, a brand that it owns. But it seems that the Chinese electronics company has been silently busy in its home court and is just about ready to announce its newest flagship, the TCL N3 smartphone.

Last we heard from TCL was in mid-2010 when it announced that it would be releasing the first ever Android-based TV in China, just around the time of Google TV’s infancy. Fast forward a few years, we haven’t heard much from the company except via indirect association with the Alcatel brand. TCL, however, stopped using that name for their own smartphones and this upcoming device will be one of those carrying TCL’s own brand name.

The TCL N3′s hardware looks like a mish mash of specs from current generation smartphones. It’s large 6-inch 1080p Full HD display sits right in the middle of the giant phablet category, bigger than the Samsung Galaxy Note III‘s 5.7 inches but smaller than the Galaxy Mega‘s 6.3. It runs on a 1.5 GHz quad-core CPU, but some may be disappointed to learn that it is a MediaTek MT6589T chip. It does have a decent amount of RAM at 2 GB and an even more decent 3400 mAh battery. It sports a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front-facing camera and will be running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

The TCL N3 still doesn’t have a release date or any pricing details. It will be available in mainland China, but it is still unknown if it will be introduced in other markets as well, either under its own brand or under the Alcatel umbrella.
