HTC One Max

After an endless amounts of leaks and photos and everything in between, the HTC One Max is now official.  HTC’s first flagship is set to challenge the likes of the Galaxy Note III and Xperia Z Ultra, but it may leave specs enthusiasts a little bit disappointed.  Here are the specs:

  • 5.9″ 1080 Display
  • 1.67GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 600 Processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB/32GB Internal Storage
  • microSD Card Slot
  • 4MP UltraPixel Camera
  • 2.1MP Front Facing Camera
  • 3300 mAh Battery
  • Fingerprint Scanner
  • Android 4.3 with Sense 5.5

While these specs are by no means poor, they don’t “wow.”  The Max’s main competition, the Galaxy Note III and Xperia Z Ultra, are both running Snapdragon 800 processors.  Furthermore, the Galaxy Note III packs 3GB of RAM which pushes it even further ahead of the competition (specs wise that is).  Many were also hoping to see a slight increase in the megapixel count of the camera.  While we know that more megapixels don’t automatically equal a better photo, a slight increase would have been nice and bigger numbers do catch consumers attention a little bit more.

On the plus side, HTC has added a micro SD card slot which many will love.  This does mean that you lose the one piece aluminum body but the device still looks pretty darn nice.   The battery is also plenty large and should be able to power you through a day without much problem.

The big addition to the phone is definitely the fingerprint scanner.  According to HTC, you can assign three apps to three different fingers so that you can quickly launch into them by scanning the associated finger.  While it all sounds good, early reviews I’ve been reading say that the scanner needs some serious work .  Of course I’ll save final judgement for when I actually get to try out the phone.

Speaking of trying out the phone, global availability has not been made known quite yet.  In the Press Release, HTC states that “The HTC One max will begin rolling out across the globe from mid – end October” but we need to “See specific regions for details.”  We’ll get in touch with our HTC contact to see if they know anything yet.

So what do you guys think of the device?  Does the One Max have a chance to compete in the increasingly competitive phablet market?
